link

As a nursing mother, the one thing which comes to your mind is "Am I having enough milk to keep my little one full". I have breastfed maha for almost 2.5 years and now i am feeding my second daughter.

From experience i am taking certain foods which increases breast milk supply and also helps to maintain a healthy weight. I thought of sharing it with you all.

The first thing you have to remember is, breastmilk is the only food which you have to give to babies untill 6 months. You will never have enough milk during the first 2 days after your little one is born. But as your baby sucks and latch your supply will increase gradually. So feed as often as possible.

How to Stop Breastfeeding a Baby - Stopping Breastfeeding a Baby at Night

4:30 AM 5
Source
Breastmilk is the best food you can give your baby.

Frankly speaking, i breast fed my baby till 2 years. Then it started getting difficult. She started screaming at the top of lungs if she didn't get it. She started demanding it more often than i thought. She started waking up inbetween nights and screams for BM. I started feeling the pressure, i couldn't sleep peacefully and my back started aching because i was lying on my side all night.

Thats when i decided, Okay it is enough, i should stop it.

source

Here are few tips and technique which i followed

1) Slowly Stop or Reduce Day Feeding:

Reducing feeding during day was easy for me. Since i kept her busy with play toys, rhymes and books. She stopped demanding milk during day time.

2)Bittergourd or Neem Oil:

Buy good quality neem oil from shops and apply on your breast when your baby demands for milk. They will get a very bitter note and this may reduce babies interest in BM. But in my case, she wiped off the oil and enjoyed it.

3)Ask Daddy's Help:

You can put the baby near daddy and make them close to them. Ask them to put on their shoulders to make her sleep. In my case, this didn't work as my baby cried to make me hold her.

4) Sleep in next room:

If you are living with your mother in law or you have your mom near by. Ask them to sleep with your little one during night. Let them pat her when she cries inbetween night. Doing this for 3 to 4 days will make the baby forget breast feeding. This is what i followed and it helped me.

5)Have food to give at night:

For babies below 1.5 years old, you can have formula milk or cows milk which you can feed at night when they demands for BM.

Read this : ALL ABOUT BREASTFEEDING A BABY

6)Make their tummy full:

Feed them well at night, so their tummy will be full and they wont demand BM at night.

7)Put a bandaid on your breast:

Please don't laugh, it may be funny but this helped me. I put a bandaid on my breast and when my little one asked for milk. I showed that mommy is not well, something bite me, so i cannot feed you. And my little one was so caring, she stopped asking breast milk from that day.

8)Keep warm water:

When your baby demands milk, just feed them warm water. Sometimes baby may be feeling thirsty so they might be asking for BM.

9)Keep them active during day:

During day time keep them active, reduce their sleeping time. Make them play a lot. This will make them tired and they will sleep quicky at night.

10) Tickling them helps:

To put them sleep, just give some relaxing tickles on their stomach or legs, this will make them feel good and they will sleep soon.

11)Reading Stories:

Tell them lots of stories when you put them to sleep. Watching their favourite cartoons at night will reduce them asking for BM.

I hope this will help you a lot. Each baby will be different. So follow each of these steps one by one patiently, something will surely help you.

Weaning a baby is a slow process, so be patient. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Breastfeeding a Baby - Everything you want to know

10:02 PM 1

Breastfeeding is ideal for babies under 1 year. Breastmilk has the right amount of fat, protein and other benefits. It helps to boost up the immunity in baby and protect them from disease. There is no better food for a baby than BM.

In this post i will be sharing  few basic thing you need to know about BF.

1)How to start with BF.

Breast milk start to form right after a few hours you deliver a baby. I started nursing my lil one after 4 hours. Babies know how to latch on your breast naturally. You may seek help from nurse or doctor if you find difficult in nursing your baby. During the first few days, a rich milk called as colostrum is produced which is very important for baby. It has many nutrients in them.

2)All about Milk Supply and Production.

I get many mails from new moms, that their milk supply is very low and it is not meeting their babies demand. The more your baby nurses, the more milk you produce. So for the first six weeks after birth, you should let your baby nurse whenever she wants. Typically, that's every couple of hours -- or about 10 to 12 feedings a day. But don't fret if it's actually less, or more, than that. Your infant has her own needs, and your milk supply will adjust to meet them. As your baby gets bigger, she'll go a longer time between feedings. So the longer you feed your baby the more milk you produce. And also you will see some discomfort in your breast, when you skip a feed for baby, from this you will get to know that you are producing a lot for your baby.

3)How to know whether your baby is getting enough food.

Baby will lose a little weight after few days of their birth, this is perfectly normal. You will see them gaining extra pounds after a month, mainly after 41 days. This is when your little one gets all chubby and plumped up. From this you can know that your baby is getting enough food. Also you will be seeing him peeing and pooping a lot, this also shows that they are getting enough.

4)Burping a baby is important.

When a baby feeds, there are chances she can swallow air. little bubbles of air can become trapped in her stomach. These bubbles can make her uncomfortable and grizzly. By burping your baby, you help her to free up room in her tummy, so she can settle and feed longer. Breastfed babies tend to need less burping than bottle-fed babies. This is because breastfed babies tend to swallow less air when feeding. If you are bottle feeding your baby, you may want to try an anti-colic bottle. These are designed to prevent your baby from taking in as much air, which means less trapped wind and less burping.

After you feed your baby, you can put her on your shoulder, so that her tummy is kind of pressed and pat on her back. You can even make her sit upright and pat her back to make her burp.

6)What you eat is what your baby gets. How to make your breast milk clean.

Mommy's diet is very important when you are breast feeding. When you consume unwanted stuff that may cause gastric issues in baby. So try to maintain a healthy diet to produce good quality breast milk.
Also here is a grand ma's tip for you, when you eat some foods which you think may cause gastric issues, what you can do is take some ginger, peel it and grate it, squeeze and extract the juice from it. Now drink that juice and immediately just bend your shoulders for few minutes or you can broom your house. This way that ginger helps to make your breast milk digestable for your baby.

7)Food that helps to increase BM.

8)Working Moms & Breast Milk

If you are a working mom, You can express and store your breastmilk to keep it fresh for your baby in a number of ways:
1)At room temperature (maximum of 25 degrees C) for up to four hours.
2)In a refrigerator (maximum of 4 degrees C) for 24 hours. In colder regions, breastmilk kept in a fridge can stay fresh for three to five days. But in hotter parts of the country, fridge doors are opened and closed more frequently because there are many more fresh items that need to be kept cold. This is why it's best to store expressed breastmilk for no more than a day.
3)In a freezer with a temperature of -18 degrees C, for three to six months (again, this takes into account the long hot summer months and more frequent use of the freezer). Always keep the milk in the back of the freezer away from the door, because items stored towards the front are more susceptible to changing temperatures when you open the freezer.
4)In single-door refrigerators with a freezer compartment inside the fridge, for two weeks.
5)In an insulated cooler, icebox, styrofoam or thermocol box filled with ice or ice packs for up to 24 hours.
